What Is SEO And Why Should You Care?
In case you've been living under a marketing and technology rock for the last few years, 'SEO' stands for 'Search Engine Optimisation'. In plain English, it's the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's 'natural' or un-paid ('Organic') search results.
For marketing managers (both digitally focused and otherwise), business owners, CEOs and managing directors - it's a powerful potential engine for customer acquisition growth. It's no 'silver bullet' (let's face it - nothing is) but when used in the right way with the right strategy and mixed in with the right value proposition and the right business - the results can be tremendous. For most larger businesses these days, it's increasingly becoming an integral part of their marketing strategy.
SEO is most definitely distinct from the paid advertisements that you see on Google. With Google AdWords, you pay by the click. With SEO, getting you 'ranked' is a lot more complicated from a technical implementation point of view than simply giving the ol' 'Google gods' money.
Google AdWords or SEO?
For new comers to the digital marketing industry, a question that is on a lot of people's minds (some are more embarrassed to ask than others) is ``should we be doing Google AdWords or SEO first?``. It's not an easy question to answer directly but we'll do our best to clue you up. Our take on this matter is that it really depends on your marketing objectives and marketing budget.
Generally speaking, from a marketing management point of view, the more profitable marketing channels you have the better. So, if your Google AdWords account is already profitable and you've 'maxed out the potential' there, it might be time to look at a serious SEO.
